Excitement is building in and around Berwick as the town’s new flagship sports and leisure centre prepares to open its doors to the public on Tuesday 8 January.
The fantastic £22.6 million facility, funded by Northumberland County Council and run by Active Northumberland will provide state-of-the- art facilities and a whole new customer experience for all ages of the local community.
Situated on the site of the current leisure centre at Tweedmouth, the centre is being built in two phases and it is the biggest phase, phase 1 that is opening to the public on the 8th
In just a matter of days residents will be able to enjoy the new swimming pools, relax in the spa or get active in the fitness suites. There’s a café selling delicious food, a children’s soft play area, an indoor bowling green which will be very popular with local clubs, and a sensory room for those who are less able.
In the pool hall there is a five-lane, 25m swimming pool, a learner pool with an adjustable floor and a leisure area which includes race slides and aqua play. For those wanting a bit of rest and relaxation there is a new spa facility which includes a sauna, steam room, salt room, experience showers and spa pool.
There is also a brand-new state of the art gym and fitness area and three fitness studios. One of the studios will be used as a dedicated spinning studio with Technogym bikes while the other two will be used for fitness classes, yoga and Pilates.
