Train to be a swimming teacher with Active Northumberland Academy
Active Northumberland has launched a new, low cost training scheme to nurture local talent and encourage more people to become swimming instructors.
The leisure trust has partnered with The Institute of Swimming to develop a swimming academy which will save participants 90% on training fees (costing £79 instead of £1,000) and give them an opportunity for employment with Active Northumberland once they have qualified.
Successful applicants will receive top quality training and support to complete their Swim England Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) and Level 2 Teaching Swimming qualifications. In between the courses, there will be a period of volunteering to gain practical experience.
Mark Seymour, head of swimming at Active Northumberland said:
“ Becoming a swimming teacher is a fantastic career path for those who are looking for a rewarding, active and challenging role, however the cost of qualifying can hold some people back.
“Active Northumberland run hundreds of swimming lessons across the county and we are often on the lookout for swimming instructors. We believe removing cost as a barrier will help attract new people who may not have considered teaching as a career opportunity.”
“ We are able to offer flexible employment which can fit around study or other work commitments and while good swimming skills are important, being friendly, enthusiastic, reliable and able to interact with children are the key qualities we are looking for.”
