Pool Safety

We want your experience at an Active Northumberland swimming pool to be a safe and enjoyable experience. In order to do so, we ask you to read the following pool safety rules. If you have any further questions, please contact our friendly customer service team on 01670 620200.

General policy

  • All children under eight should be accompanied in the water by a responsible person of 16 years or over. This person may be responsible for up to two children under the age of eight.

  • The accompanying person should ensure that all under eights and non-swimmers remain in safe areas of the pool (i.e. in the shallow end, within their own depth of water and near to the poolside).

  • Spectators cannot supervise children under eight in the water. Spectators must use the designated area and are not allowed on poolside in order to prevent contamination from shoes.

  • The use of approved buoyancy aids for under eights and non-swimmers is recommended. Suitable buoyancy aids are classed as a garment or armbands and must meet EN BS 13138 standards. A float is not classed as a suitable buoyancy aid.

  • We reserve the right to change the programme in exceptional circumstances.

Pool inflatable sessions

Please read the following information before attending a pool inflatable session.

Ashington Leisure Centre
Children are not allowed onto the inflatable until they have successfully completed an assessment to swim 25m of the pool by a lifeguard.
Once the child has demonstrated that they can swim 25m, the lifeguard will give them a band which will allow access to the inflatable. This assessment will be completed for children attending inflatable parties too.
If they are unable to swim the 25mtrs they will not be handed a band and will not be allowed in the pool whilst the inflatable is in but they can use the small pool.  Children attending parties who are not able to swim the 25mtrs can stay in the main pool with the inflatable.
