5 week fencing course for beginners
A new five week fencing course for beginners is to start at Wentworth Leisure Centre in Hexham.
The course will provide a great opportunity to learn a new sport while improving your fitness, having great fun and meeting new people.
It is open to adults and costs £15 for five weeks but is free for Active Northumberland members.
In the beginners class, you’ll learn how to hold the sword and start learning about fencing bladework and footwork including attacking and defensive techniques.
Kathie Keadie, Community Sports Manager at Active Northumberland said:
“We wanted to lay on a new sport for our members. Fencing only requires an ordinary level of fitness which makes it so appealing but it will help to improve your stamina, flexibility, fitness and concentration as well as providing conditioning and toning. It’s also exciting and great fun."
For the class you’ll need to wear trainers and loose clothing but all other equipment will be provided.
Classes will take place between 12.30pm - 1.30 pm on Monday Jan 29th, February 5th, 19th, 26th and March 5th and if they prove popular further sessions will be laid on.
To join in the classes, or log your interest for future courses, please ring 01670 620200.
