Willowburn Sports & Leisure Centre has won a coveted gold medal for its grounds and landscaping in the Annual Northumbria in Bloom competition for a second year running.
The Centre manager Steve Temple and the gardener Lee Horn have worked closely together to make sure that the grounds are kept in prime condition, to give the Centre clients and users a beautiful and ecologically sound space in which to enjoy the gardens, as well as plenty of opportunities to spend time making good use of the seating and picnic tables.
With the help of Emma Clark, who also works at Willowburn, the centre has also benefitted from the help and involvement of the Brownies and Guides, along with projects with local schools. The centre now has its own greenhouse which means they can now produce a wider variety of their own flowers and plants more cost effectively.
All of this will be continued in 2020, when more exciting projects will be unveiled, involving local community groups, once again making Willowburn Sports Centre a hub for the people of Alnwick and surrounding areas.
