Ice maiden Jane's charity challenge

Well done to Jane Hardy from Willowburn Sports Centre in Alnwick who raised the magnificent sum of £285 for charity by sitting in an ice bath outside Sainsbury’s in Alnwick.

Sainsbury’s customers paid £1 each to Sport Relief for guessing how long Jane could last in the ice water. Jane, who enjoys cold-water swimming,  managed to stay in for half an hour and raised £200 for the worthwhile cause. Sainsbury managers all briefly joined Jane in the pool of freezing water and endured an ice bucket challenge.

Jane also raised an additional £85 for Breadline Africa, for which she is UK ambassador. The charity recycles old shipping containers into classrooms,  libraries and toilet facilities for some of the most poverty stricken children in Southern Africa.
