With Bike Week just around the corner what better time to grab your helmet, gather up your friends and family, and (re)discover how much enjoyment cycling can bring!
If you don’t own a bike, then why not take advantage of the Active Northumberland cycle loan scheme that aims to encourage adults to get back into cycling.
If you are over 18 years of age you can hire a bike for £25 a month from Prudhoe Waterworld, Blyth Sports Centre and Concordia in Cramlington.
WATbike in Ashington also offer free guided cycle rides for novices aimed at people who want to get back into cycling, as well as more advanced routes and rides for more experienced cyclists. They also sell reconditioned cycles at competitive prices.
Bike Week (8- 17th of June) is an annual campaign to promote cycling and show how cycling can easily become part of your everyday life.
Northumberland County Councillor, Cath Homer, cabinet member with responsibility for leisure said:
“ Cycling is an activity which can suit all ages from preschool to pension age. It’s also great for your physical and mental health and for the environment too.
“ Our adult cycle loan scheme is a cost effective way to get back into the saddle and enjoy the beautiful Northumberland countryside over the summer, without having to buy your own bike.”
