Active Northumberland has been investing and upgrading athletics facilities at Wentworth Sports & Leisure Centre in Hexham.
The athletics track at Wentworth has been professionally cleaned and relined and new track and field equipment purchased.
The track has been pressure washed with a bespoke machine that blasts away the waste and then vacuums it up so the red surface looks much cleaner and brighter. New track lines have also been resprayed onto it.
Active Northumberland has also purchased a new high jump bed and a running spike proof cover for it, and some new steeplechase barriers.
Northumberland County Councillor Cath Homer, cabinet member with responsibility for leisure said:
“ The Wentworth athletics track is an important local venue used by schools, the wider community and a variety of sporting clubs including Tynedale Harriers.
“ The upgrade work has helped to keep the track up to international standards which is important for all those who use it, but especially so for those who compete in Wentworth’s annual decathlon to get qualification points for top international events.”
“This track work and purchase of new equipment is just one of a number of projects that Active Northumberland is undertaking in the coming months to upgrade sports and leisure facilities for our residents.”
