Community gardening efforts make Willowburn wonderful

Green fingered members of the local community have been helping to spruce up the grounds of  Willowburn Leisure Centre in Alnwick.

Recently adults with learning difficulties who are being taught horticulture at  Northumberland County Council’s adult learning centre at Hepscott near Morpeth brought some plants they had reared to brighten up the central flowerbeds at the centre.

Local brownies and guide groups have also been helping in the grounds, and earlier in the summer local schools entered a competition to design bird boxes - with the winning boxes now erected around the centre.

When the Northumberland in Bloom judges recently paid a visit to Willowburn, they expressed interest in the fact that so many local community groups had been involved in keeping the flowerbeds stocked and well tended.
