Health Walks

Intensity Level

What is it?

Explore Northumberland’s impressive scenery and improve your fitness with one of Active Northumberland’s walking groups.

Why do it?

Health walks are designed to encourage you to make walking a regular part of your life. You get to enjoy the fresh air while participating in effective exercise as you meet other people and take in the stunning surroundings. All walks are completely free. Occasionally, we will organise special ‘away days’ which cost a small amount to cover the cost of transport.

Who is it for?

These routes are marked as ‘Long’, meaning they may be challenging to some with steep slopes, steps and uneven surfaces, and take approximately 90 minutes and over to complete and tend to be walked at a faster pace.

What to bring

  • Comfortable and warm clothing
  • Sturdy shoes
  • Drink

General information

 - Before your first walk you will need to complete a registration form which you can download here and bring with you, or if you arrive 10 minutes early you can complete it then.

 - You can walk with as many groups as you like

 - Simply turn up wearing weather-appropriate outdoor clothing and supportive shoes or boots

 - Our trained volunteers are there to help you but all walks are taken at your own risk

 - Bring your own refreshments and some small change if you wish to purchase a hot drink along the way or after your walk

 - The walk leaders may change the planned route at the last minute depending on weather conditions

 - Please don’t leave the group without informing the leader or back marker and tell one of them if you are feeling unwell
